MARSHALL, Texas – After jumping out to a tremendous start, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team (0-8, 0-4 ASC) could not keep pace with the hot-shooting of Howard Payne University (6-4, 3-0 ASC), as they took the American Southwest Conference game, 90-72.

ETBU started the game with an early 8-2 lead over HPU, but lost the lead late in the first quarter as they fell behind 24-12. ETBU and HPU were neck and neck throughout the second quarter, with HPU leading at halftime 52-38. ETBU fought back and brought the score within 11 points on 9-0 run late in the third quarter, but could not inch closer as HPU ultimately pulled away in the end.

ETBU had three players score in double figures as Sade' Murrell led the team with 16 points. Hannah Holt had 15 points and Brittney Jones added 12 points off the bench. Holt led ETBU in rebounding with nine, falling one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double. Murrell and Jones each added six rebounds, and Jhaenniece Rasberry pitched in five boards.

ETBU made 40% from the field, 20% from three-point range, and 72% from the line. ETBU outrebounded HPU 46-37 in the contest, and had 17 offensive rebounds.

HPU made 47.1% of field goals, 40% from behind the three-point line, and 56% from the free throw line. Five of their players had double figures as Sarahi Castillo led with 22 points. HPU forced 32 turnovers, a category in which they rank first in the ASC in.

ETBU will travel to Austin for an ASC game against Concordia University (5-2, 0-2 ASC) next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff. The game will precede the men's basketball game.
