Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - AUSTIN, Texas - In their final game before the Christmas break, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team couldn't hit the shots to keep up with Concordia (7-2, 1-2) as they fell 81-60. ETBU falls to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
As a team, ETBU only managed to hit 40.8% of their shots from the field. They had a cold shooting performance from behind the three-point line as they shot 14.3%. ETBU also hit 58.1% from the free throw line. However, ETBU had three players in double figures as Hannah Holt led all scorers with 17 points while picking up four steals and a block shot. Britney Jones had 11 points, three steals and two assists while Sade Murrell had 10 points. Delia Hopkins led all players with six rebounds.
For the Tornadoes, they made 45.6% from the field, 56.5% from three-point range, and 84.2% from the free throw line. They had three players in double figures as Brenisha Payne led CTX with 18 points and five rebounds. Emily Cullers had 16 points while Jaela Dejean had 13 points and seven assists. Mercedes Ellison had 12 points and five rebounds.
After Malaisia Chisholm hit a jumper to cut the lead to 3-2, the pattern would exchange as CTX built a five-point lead only to see ETBU cut the lead to three twice during the quarter. Following a layup by Jones to make it 9-6 for CTX, the Tornadoes finished the quarter with a 6-2 run to lead 15-8 after one quarter. They would build their lead up to 20 in the second quarter. ETBU did cut the lead to as close as 13 at 30-17 on a Holt layup. CTX would finish the second quarter with a lead of 40-23 at the break. ETBU did play a strong third quarter in which they scored 21 points and got close to within 12. But CTX controlled the tempo for the rest of the quarter as they tallied 29 points and finished with a 69-44 lead at halftime. ETBU did outscore CTX 16-12 in the final quarter to finish with the final score of 81-60.
ETBU will be off for a few weeks before returning to action for two games in Longview on the 29th and 30th of December as they play Texas Lutheran and Schreiner in that order. Both games will be at 11:00 am.Â
