RECAP: Second Half Run Falls Short to SRSU.

MARSHALL, Texas – After clawing their way back into the game, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start, dropping an American Southwest Conference game to Sul Ross State University. ETBU scored six points in the opening frame which would ultimately be the difference in the game.

Sul Ross jumped out to a fast start shooting 53.3% from the floor in the first quarter, draining four three point field goals in the process. ETBU would outscore Sul Ross in the next two quarters, keeping the game within single digits. Sul Ross would inch away from ETBU late, to make the final score 76-62 in favor of the Lobos.

Hannah Holt led the way for ETBU with 14 points. Sade' Murrell and Malaisia Chisolm each had 12 points, and led the team with five rebounds apiece. Brittney Jones chimed in nine points off the bench when ETBU was making its comeback during the second half. Jhaenniece Rasberyy and Murrell tied for the team lead with four assists.

ETBU shot 36.5% from the floor, and had a game high 39 rebounds in the contest. ETBU was just 2-10 from behind the arc, compared to 9-25 from Sul Ross.

Kenya Miles contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Sul Ross. Ellyn Avery had 15 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Katy Boren was the final Lobo with double figures as she had 13 points.

ETBU will return to action this Saturday in Ornelas Gymnasium for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff against Howard Payne University.
