Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – From beginning whistle to end whistle the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team was dominant in possessing the ball shutting out Dallas Christian College, 1-0. ETBU's swarming defense and high-volume of pressure pushing the ball up the field helped them to the one-goal win. ETBU scored on a second-half goal from Daniel Rutter, his second of the young season, for the game winner.
ETBU outshot Dallas Christian College on the afternoon 22-2, with 13 of those shots being on goal for the Tigers. Shots came plenty for ETBU as 11 different players put a ball toward the net. David Jackson led the way with five shots, four on goal, on the day. Rutter put in his second goal of the season in the 54th minute of the match to seal the game for ETBU. A stingy defense from ETBU limited DCC to only two shots on the day, neither of which were on goal. Late into the second half, DCC found a little momentum and kept the ball near the box, but ETBU was able to get the ball back to secure the victory to improve their record to 3-1 on the season.
Head coach Chris Crawford said this after the match, “It is always good to win on the road and good for us to get one early. Guys are making great progress and we are still growing. We are still young and fine tuning some things, but we are headed in the right direction and that's what you ask and want from your guys before conference start. ETBU will hope to continue to grow in their next three games before conference play starts on September 24th against LeTourneau University.
ETBU will return to action next Thursday with a nonconference road match in Brownwood, Texas against Howard Payne University at 4:00 p.m.
