ABILENE, Texas – This past weekend the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis competed in the American Southwest Conference Individual Tournament in Abilene, Texas. John Herr had the top finish for the team in flight 7 singles.

In singles play, John Herr finished the highest with a third place finish at flight 7 singles as he defeated Lucio Valenzuela (McMurry) 6-1, 3-6, 10-6, lost to Daniel Lopez (LeTourneau) 6-0, 6-1, and defeated Brian Martin (UMHB) 6-4, 6-0

Three guys finished fourth place as Dillon Deatherage finished the flight 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Damian Blanco (Sul Ross State) before losing two matches to Griffin Weinkam (Hardin-Simmons) 6-1, 6-1 and Hoan Le (Schreiner) 6-1, 6-3. Ty Tarver finished the flight 6 singles by winning 7-6 (4), 6-4 over Chase Van Cleave (UMHB) before dropping 6-2, 6-2 to Dayton Hancock (Schreiner) and 7-6, 5-7, 10-5 to Caleb Epps (LeTourneau). Ross Houk defeated Akevion Cunningham (Ozarks) 6-3, 6-2, lost to Andrew Albright (Schreiner) 6-3, 6-1, and lost to Alex Hernandez (LeTourneau)

In doubles play, the team of Deatherage and Ryan Pearce finished fourth in flight 1 doubles by defeated Nick Pena/Hancock (Schreiner) 9-7, losing to Rayce Roberson/Martinez (McMurry) 8-2, and dropping to Cole Weiss/Scott Wilding (UMHB). Herr/Ty Tarver finished 3rd in men's flight 3 doubles with a 8-1 win over Drew Lambert/Ryan Barrett (HPU), an 8-5 loss to B.J Farmakis/Michael Boyd (HSU), and a 8-6 win over Logan Daniell and Clayton Pope.
