Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – After 110 minutes, the score still remained the same as the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Schreiner University. Both schools had opportunities during the contest as the goalies played well for each team. Both goalies played all 110 minutes combining for nine overall saves.
The biggest play of the game came during the first half as ETBU goalie Lexy Montgomery came up with a huge save on a penalty kick to keep Schreiner off the scoreboard. Montgomery made her presence felt early and often as she had five saves in the net.
The game was even on both sides of the pitch. Schreiner and ETBU had 16 and 11 shots respectively, with six shots being on goal for Schreiner and four shots on goal for ETBU. Erin Miller led the shooting with five shots of her own, two of them on goal.
“From the very beginning we came out fighting, we fought every minute of the game and it didn't matter if it was the ninth minute or the 109th minute we fought every single second and I have never been so proud of my team than tonight,” Miller had to say after the game.
In his coaching debut tonight, Head Coach Erik Solberg was very pleased with the team's effort in the contest. Solberg stated, “I've never been more proud of a zero-zero result. I felt like the girls just competed tonight. I told them I needed 90 minutes and they gave me 110. I could not be more proud of the result, and the effort from the girls tonight.”
ETBU will continue their opening weekend with another home match against Texas Lutheran University at Cornish Field Saturday at 1 p.m.
