Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Second Half substitutes can change a game, and it surely helped East Texas Baptist University in their 2-0 shutout win over Schreiner University. ETBU netted two second half goals within eight minutes of each other to pull away with the win and hand new head coach Chris Crawford his first win at ETBU.
Senior David Jackson lined up a free kick perfectly as he netted a ball into the top left corner to open up scoring for ETBU in the 67th minute. Shortly after Jackson scored, Danillo Martins played a through ball from Daniel Rutter and skillfully sent the ball into the back of the net to extend to lead for ETBU (75th minute).
ETBU led the game with 15 shots on the night with seven of those being on goal. Jackson and Martins scored their first goals of the 2016 campaign in timely fashion as they gave Coach Chris Crawford his first victory in his debut tonight. Crawford said this on the effort tonight, “The second half started a little shaky, but they found a way to put it together in the second half and that is when the confidence set in and that is where saw them play like we wanted them too.”
Both goalies saved four shots on the night, but Bryant Botello came up with two huge saves on two separate breakaway opportunities for Schreiner to earn the win. Nine different players fired a shot at the goal for ETBU as Jackson led the way with two shots on goal out of two shots. Rutter tallied the lone assist on the night in the 75th minute on Martins goal.
ETBU will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as Texas Lutheran University makes their way to Cornish Field.
