Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – With his fourth goal in three games, Joel Ramirez lifed the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team over Hendrix College, 1-0. ETBU improves to 5-2 on the season, while Hendrix drops to 2-5 on the year. This was the final non-conference match for ETBU as they begin American Southwest Conference play on Saturday.
On the night, ETBU out shot Hendrix 28 to 13. ETBU had plenty of opportunities throughout the match and finally capitalized early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Ramirez converted a cross from Aaron Lopez. Ramirez tucked in the pass with a shot to the bottom right corner and found the back of the net. ETBU put 13 shots on goal in the contest, but stellar defense all around limited opportunities for both teams.
David Jackson and Matthew Argenbright led the offensive barrage on the net with six shots and five shots respectively. Jackson had four shots on goal, while Argenbright, Ramirez, and Dominic Wood had two shots on goal each. Five different Warriors from Hendrix had two shots each, but were only able to put four shots on goal. This was Bryant Botello's fourth win on the season, and his third shutout victory.
Head coach Chris Crawford said this after the match, “Tonight's game was a great win for the guys on the road. We made some great progress that will help us move forward. The guys are working harder and harder each day and getting better. There is nothing better for a coach when your team responds to the push and expectations set for them each time.”
ETBU will return to action this Saturday with a double-header with the women's soccer team against LeTourneau University. The women's match with begin at 5:00 p.m. and the men will follow with their match beginning at 7:30 p.m. This will be the first ASC match for ETBU.
