Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Two is the lucky number for the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team in their first two games. ETBU has won both games each with a 2-0 score including Saturday's win over Texas Lutheran University.
ETBU was on the board in the 29th minute as junior Joel Botello scored off an assist from senior Antoine Bravo. Bravo perfectly placed the ball through two defenders as Botello finished off the pass with a nice shot around the goalkeeper. The second goal came from sophomore Daniel Rutter in the 78th minute, halfway through the second half.
Coach Chris Crawford finishes his home debut weekend at ETBU on a high note with another victory. Crawford after the game was pleased with his team's effort, but isn't satisfied yet, “We started 2-0, but there are still areas to fix and fine tune and that is a good problem to have. Getting two wins while still make those corrections is a great thing.”
Rutter lead the team with two shots, both on goal, out of the eight for ETBU. “We came out here with a mindset to fight for one another every day at practice and during the games. To get these two wins have been great,” Rutter had to say after the game.
ETBU will resume non-conference play next weekend in the Dallas area for two games. ETBU will play Southwestern Assemblies of God on Thursday and at Dallas Christian College on Saturday.
