Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – From the beginning of the match until the very end, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team controlled the game against Belhaven University sweeping the Blazers 3-0 to pick up their second American Southwest Conference victory of the season. Belhaven drops to 6-9 on the season, and ETBU improves to 3-9, and 2-4 in ASC play.
ETBU was led offensively by Mallory Sanders and Britni Mosher who contributed 14 kills and 12 kills respectively. Sanders picked up another double-double on the season adding 13 digs to her 14 kills. Kayla Green led ETBU with 23 assists, and Elyse Shaw pitched in 18 assists of her own to help pace ETBU's offense. Morgan Rupp and Lauren Jarrell also added double-digit digs in the contest. Rupp led ETBU with 16 digs, and Jarrell added 11 digs of her own. ETBU hit .278 in the contest as a team.
Kelly Aholt led Belhaven with 35 assists and Blaykleigh Smythe led with a match-high 16 kills for the Blazers. Jackie Gunderson and Abbey Herman pitched in to lead Belhaven with 13 digs and 11 digs. On the night, Belhaven hit .207 as a team.
ETBU won the first set of the match 25-14 and then won the second set 25-23. Belhaven gave ETBU a run for their money in the third and final set, pushing the game in to extra points, until ETBU was able to pull away with a 31-29 set win. The two wins in ASC play for ETBU have both been 3-0 sweeps.
ETBU will return to action with a rematch against University of Texas-Tyler, who ETBU swept earlier this season, on Tuesday October 4th in Tyler, Texas. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m.
