Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – In a tightly contested ballgame, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team fell Saturday afternoon to the Belhaven University Blazers, 67-54. Belhaven knocked down a few more free throws and three point field goals to provide the difference.
ETBU jumped out to an early lead, until late in the first quarter. Belhaven and ETBU would trade leads early in the second quarter until Belhaven grabbed the lead for good. Belhaven led at halftime 30-24, after ETBU made a free throw to grab back the momentum going into the break. Belhaven would slightly extend its lead, and would stay in the lead for the remainder of the game thanks to Samara Dingiswayo and her four three's in the second half. Belhaven would ice the game on free throws and ball movement to seal the win for the Blazers.
ETBU was led by Hannah Holt with 14 points and Amanda Wilson with 10 points. This is three straight games for Wilson and Holt to reach double figures in scoring. Delia Hopkins continues to rebound the ball at an alarming rate, with 10 rebounds tonight. Wilson also had seven rebounds in the game.
ETBU had eight blocks as a team, led by Wilson with four and Lauren Lee with two. ETBU shot 34.4% from the floor, 18.8% from behind the arc, and just 46.7% from the free throw line.
Dingiswayo led Belhaven with 22 points on six three point field goals. Candler Gregory had 11 points, and Tajee Harper added 10 points. Vamikka Smith led Belhaven with 13 rebounds in the game.
Belhaven shot 32.8% from the floor, 46.7% from behind the arc, and 66.7% from the free throw line. Belhaven forced 14 ETBU turnovers.
ETBU drops to 2-13 on the year, while Belhaven improves to 10-5 on the year.
ETBU will return to action next Thursday, as they resume American Southwest Conference action at the University of Texas at Dallas at 5:30 p.m.
