#TIGERSWIN: Clutch Shooting Gives ETBU a Huge Win

Box Score

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - With thirteen seconds left in the game, freshman Jade Jeffries became the unsung hero knocking down the biggest shot of the season for the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team as they escaped with a clutch 66-64 win over Ozarks. It was their first conference win of the season as it improves their record to 3-14 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

From the start of the game, Ozarks jumped out to an 8-0 lead courtesy of two three point shots by Bryanna Moltz. It was 12-4 in Ozarks favor before ETBU started to make a 9-4 run of their own cutting the lead to 16-13 at the end of the first. Keying the run was Kaitlyn Packett who nailed the three and Amanda Wilson who nailed the layup. Ozarks started to get going in the second half as they built themselves a 21-13 lead to start the second quarter. ETBU would soon get help from the bench as Jeffries, Brittney Jones, and Jhanniece Rasberry each scored to cut the lead to 21-20 at the 4:54 mark. After two minutes of scoreless ball, Lainey Lee's three pointer gave ETBU the led at 23-21 only for Moltz to tie the game moments later. Both teams scored four points to end the first half tied at 27.

ETBU came out firing in the third quarter as threes by Packett and Lauren Lee jumpstarted a 14-6 run. Hannah Holt also contributed to the run with five points and ETBU led 41-33 with 5:49 to play in the third. Suddenly, Ozarks caught fire and they too would go on a 14-6 run of their own. By the end of three quarters, both teams had 20 points each in the third and it was noted at 47.

Ozarks momentum continued into the fourth quarter as they would rush out to a 57-50 lead with 6:59 to play. But once again, ETBU's back for coming from behind came through as Jones gave ETBU life with seven of ETBU's nine unanswered points to give them a lead of 59-57. Sade Murrell also contributed to the run with a layup. A layup by Holt made it 61-57 with 2:01 to go. But Delanei Stephens made a clutch three to cut the lead to one. Free throws by Hailey Ostrander gave Ozarks the lead 62-61. Wilson gave ETBU the lead only for Moltz to knockdown two clutch free throws with thirty-five seconds left. That set the stage for unsung hero Jeffries to knock down the game winner. Stephens did have one last chance to win it, but her three was off and ETBU came away victorious.

Leading the way for ETBU was Packett, who had 12 points while Jones had 11. Holt and Lauren Lee also contributed with nine points each. As a team, ETBU made 35.3% from the field, 33.3% from the three-point line, and 50% from the free-throw line. Ozarks was led by Moltz, who scored a game high 28 points. Diamond Goodwyn came off the bench to add 13 points of her own. Collectively, the Eagles shot 36.7% from the field, 29.4% from the three-point line, and 75% from the free throw line.

ETBU continues their road trip with a short drive to Longview for a showdown vs. LeTourneau at 5:30 PM Thursday.
