RICHARDSON, Texas – Unable to duplicate the first meeting against the University of Texas Dallas, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team fell in three straight sets to the #22 Comets. ETBU is now 8-14 overall and 4-5 in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The first set was all UTD as they took a lead and refused to give it back as ETBU couldn't keep up. ETBU was able to get as close as two at 3-1, but the Comets ran off with a 22-5 run to end the first set, 25-6. Set two saw ETBU start off with their first lead at 1-0. UTD would respond by scoring the next three points for a two-point lead, 3-1. ETBU would either tie the score or cut the lead to two, early in the set, only to see UTD pull away. ETBU was able to cut the deficit to 11-9 before an 11-1 run by the Comets proved to be the difference as they finished with a 25-11 win.
The third set was the most competitive as ETBU traded points with UTD and three times had the lead. Their last lead was 8-7 before UTD went back in front for good. ETBU once again cut the lead to two points at 16-14, but UTD mustered three points in a row and would manage to win the third set 25-19.
