PREVIEW: @ETBU_WS Looking to Make History on the Road

MARSHALL, Texas - Hitting the road for the last two matches of the season, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak to eight games. The Tigers will travel to Brownwood, Texas, for a match against Howard Payne on Thursday, Oct. 26, and finish the regular season against the University of Texas Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 28. Heading into this last week of matches, ETBU currently sits at 12-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in American Southwest Conference and has a chance to host a tournament match.

In the all-time matchup against HPU, ETBU has had some tough battles on the field. Overall, the Tigers are even at 5-5-1. Last season's match ended in a 0-0 tie on Cornish Field. Heading into Thursday's contest, HPU is 5-7-1 overall and 4-6 in ASC play. HPU is looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sul Ross State on Thursday, Oct. 19.

The final match of the season will take the Tigers to Richardson, Texas, to meet with the University of Texas-Dallas who is currently ahead of them in the ASC standings. In the all-time matchup, ETBU has only managed two victories against the Comets in the previous 21 matches, going 2-17-2. The Comets boast a record of 13-3 overall and an 8-2 mark in ASC games this season. UTD is coming off of a 4-0 win over Sul Ross State this past weekend. The Comets are currently on a three-game winning streak, shutting out their last three opponents and scoring 14 goals in that time.

Ashleigh Rondon holds the lead in goals made for ETBU with 10 on the season. Overall, Rondon is in a three-way tie for total points on the season at 21. After going on a tear in the last two matches, Hannah Murin has regained second place on the team in goals made with 9. Murin has also dished out three assists to stay locked into the three-way tie for total points (21). Senior Heather Brady has made eight goals coming into the last round of ASC matches capping off the top three in goals scored for ETBU.  Brady has also collected five assists to tally 21 points on the year. Leading the defensive effort is Claire Montondon. The first year goalkeeper has 35 saves on the season to go along with an on-goal save percentage of .700. Montondon's record coming into this week is 8-3.

The final two matches for ETBU hold great significance for the history of the program. If the Tigers can finish 2-0 on the road trip, not only will the team be poised to host a first round match in the ASC tournament, but they will exceed the record in total wins for the regular season. The current record for regular season wins is 12 and the overall record for wins in a season stands at 13. Head Coach Erik Solberg talked about the challenge of finishing out the season strong this weekend.

"We're in a really good position. It will come down to us striking early and preventing counter attacks. It's going to be a challenge, but we're a better team than we were a year ago. We've got to take it one game at a time but there's no reason we can't come back with another six points," Solberg said.

Thursday's match against Howard Payne University is set to kick-off at 1:00 p.m.
