MARSHALL, Texas- Heading into one of the best American Southwest Conference men's soccer rivalries, East Texas Baptist University will lace up their cleats after a week of rest to battle LeTourneau University on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. After a perfect week, ETBU is 4-5-1 overall and 0-4 in American Southwest Conference matches.
The all-time series against LETU has gone in ETBU's favor, with the team going 18-6-4 in the in 28 matches played. LETU came away with the win last year, 1-0, in Longview. Leading the attack for LETU is Edgar Sanchez. The freshman has three goals on the season with seven of his 12 total shots coming on goal. LETU is 1-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in ASC matches.
For the ETBU, freshman
Silas Sangano is tied for team-high honors with goals made on at three. Sangano has recorded 13 shots overall with eight coming on goal. Junior
Daniel Rutter also sits at first place in goals made for the season (3). Rutter has 12 shots overall and four shots coming on goal.
Thomas Sanford and
Jordan Burke both occupy second place with two goals each on the year. Sanford and Burke have a combined 20 shot attempts with 10 of those coming on goal. Manning the defensive effort is
Bryant Botello, who has 38 saves this season. Botello has managed a 3-4 record as the Tigers' primary goalie, while also recording a save percentage of 71.7.
Though it's been over a week since ETBU has seen its last competition, Head Coach
Chris Crawford believes his team will be ready to battle their conference rival this weekend.
"This week the guys know that the level of competition has to be raised. Our goal right now is to make sure we are working harder every day to beat LeTourneau. It's going to be a physical game. They work hard and they battle. It's one of those teams you can't take lightly," Crawford said.
Saturday's match is set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at Cornish Field. Â
