#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_WBSK Makes Comeback, AGAIN, for 2nd Straight Win

ETBU was down 11 points in the 3rd quarter before starting their comeback.

MARSHALL, Texas – With nine seconds left in the game, a three-point play by Sydney Saxton gave the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team a clutch, 61-60, win over the Austin College Roos. ETBU came from 11 points down to earn the victory moving to 2-0 overall as it was the second game in a row that they overcame a double-digit deficit to win the game.

ETBU was led by Katy Boren, who had 14 points, including four three-pointers. Madison McCoy was ETBU's top passer with six assists while Kim Childress grabbed eight rebounds and stole the ball four times. Saxton also added nine points. For AC, Ann Savage led all scorers with 19 points. Bryce Frank grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Roos.

Although ETBU fell in three-point shooting (34.6%-27.3%) and free throw percentage (63.6%-62.5%) categories, they did outshoot AC 43.9% to 41.5%. ETBU also outrebounded AC 34-30 while their bench scored 26 points to AC's 18.

ETBU raced off to a 7-0 lead on baskets by Baylie Lindsey (8:41), Childress (8:08), and Boren (7:44). But AC answered with nine straight points to lead 9-7. Childress did tie the game at nine with 4:47 left in the first quarter only to see ETBU give up five straight points to trail 14-9 after one.

In the second quarter, ETBU started with points from Erin Meeks (8:34), who then stole the ball and fed McCoy to cut the lead to one twelve seconds later. Nearly three minutes went by as the Roos would answer with an 8-0 run to lead 22-13 with 4:34 left. ETBU would slowly mount their way back with an 11-5 run that started at 3:39 on a three by Karley McHenry and ended with a steal and a layup by Brittney Jones with 47 seconds left. AC would answer eighteen seconds later on a layup to lead 29-24 going into halftime.

The third quarter started off on the wrong foot for the Tigers, who gave up back-to-back three pointers to Savage in the first 76 seconds making the score 35-24 in AC's favor. With under seven minutes left, AC would find themselves up 39-29. It was the last time they led by ten points as ETBU clawed their way back with a 10-0 run to tie the game. A three by McHenry (5:52), layups by Jones (5:04) and Dree Roberson (4:39) cut the margin to three. ETBU then tied the game with 2:43 left thanks to a layup by Saxton (3:43) and Jones. But the Roos recaptured the lead 42-39 with a three-point play by Jessica Atwell with no time left.

After falling behind by five on a few occasions with AC leading 47-42 at 9:01 to start the fourth quarter, ETBU answered with seven straight points from a Boren three (8:00), a Childress layup (7:40), and free throws by Baylie Lindsey (7:26). From then on, the two teams exchanged points as neither team grabbed a lead of more than three points. Tied at 56, the Roos retook the lead 59-56 on a three by Addy Walling with 2:23 to go. McCoy answered with a layup to cut the lead to one forty-three seconds later. AC tried to run as much clock, but ETBU was forced to foul with 17 seconds left. Savage made one free throw to extend the lead to two. That set up the game-winning three point play by Saxton with nine seconds left. AC did have one chance to win, but their three-pointer was short and ETBU escaped with the win.

ETBU will return from Thanksgiving break this Saturday when they host McMurry at 2:00 PM.
