@ETBU_Volleyball Fights to the End of ASC Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas - Fighting to the end, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team came up short losing in four sets to Concordia University in the ASC Championship Tournament. This puts ETBU's final record on the season at 13-19.

Leading ETBU was Lizbeth Flores, who collected 10 kills. Meredith Augsburger had 18 assists while Paige Miller and Karina Lay both had 25 digs to lead ETBU. For her performance in the tournament, Augsburger was named to the ASC All-Tournament team. For CTX, Marissa Stinson led the Tornadoes with 18 kills. Georgia Quiroz had a double-double with 52 doubles and 22 digs while Carly Custer had 27 digs to lead CTX.

The first set was tightly fought as neither team could grab control of the match. On a few occasions, CTX managed to lead at 15-12 and 22-20 only to see ETBU rally back and tie. Leading 23-22, ETBU gave up a point to the Tornadoes before sealing the win 25-23. CTX raced out to a 4-1 lead to start set two only to see ETBU tie it up. After the score was tied at 10, CTX used an 8-3 run to grab an 18-13 lead. ETBU could only cut the deficit to 19-16, but the Tornadoes ran off with a 25-18 win in set two.

Looking to take command of the third set, ETBU charged their way to a 6-2 lead. The two teams would exchange runs as CTX's 5-1 run, which tied the game at 7-7 was answered by a 11-4 ETBU run to lead 19-11. But CTX would use a couple of runs down the stretch that proved to be the difference as ETBU could not stop the Tornadoes in their 26-24 third set triumph.

Down, but not out, ETBU came out swinging in set four as they led 6-4. CTX would answer with a 13-5 run to lead 17-11. ETBU did not go down without a fight as they put together one final rally cutting the deficit to 19-16. But the Tornadoes put together a final push and finished with the 25-18 win.
