Box Score PINEVILLE, Louisiana –Jumping out to an early lead over rival Louisiana College, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team couldn't hold on late in the game as they fell in a heartbreaker, 71-62. Down 10 in the fourth quarter, ETBU put together a 15-7 run to come within three, 62-59, with just under a minute to play but Louisiana College made seven-of-eight free throws down the stretch to take the game.
Hannah Holt led the way for ETBU with 17 points. Sade' Murrell also addeddouble figures, dropping 10 points in her home state. Kaitlyn Packet had nine points on three three-point field goals, and Amanda Wilson added eight points. Jhaenniece Rasberry grabbed seven rebounds to lead ETBU.
ETBU led throughout the entire first quarter, holding a 17-10 advantage at the end of the first frame. LC would outscore ETBU 9-8 in the second quarter, but ETBU would take the lead into halftime, 25-19. LC would use a big third quarter to grab the lead from ETBU, knocking down big shots from behind the arc. ETBU made it a game late, coming within a basket, but could not overtake LC for the lead.
ETBU shot 34.2% from the floor in the game and had 50 rebounds as a team. ETBU forced 20 turnovers and had 15 assists in the game.
Kourtney McGhee led the way for LC with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists. Taylor Payne and Zharian Maxmillion had 12 points and 11 points respectively. LC shot 38.2% from the floor and forced 22 turnovers.
ETBU will return to action this weekend with their final home and ASC series of the season. They will host the University of the Ozarks on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
