MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University men's tennis team fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-4, with two tie-breaker matches being the deciding factor. ETBU falls to 4-8-1 overall and UMHB improves to 2-2 overall.
UMHB's Scott Wilding and Brendan Thompson defeated Connor Mason and Andrew Deutsch in no. 1 doubles, 8-5 to start the match but then Cody Highsmith and John Herr held off Cole Weiss and Brian Martin 8-5 in no. 2 doubles for one point. UMHB's Julian Dunmore and Jace Mahan edged by Ty Tarver and Joseph Salinas in a tiebreaker to grab a 2-1 to hand a heartbreaking loss in the tiebreaker 6-0, 2-6, 6-11 in no. 2 singles. ETBU then won matches no.3,4,and 5 as Deutsch defeated Weiss 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the no. 3 match. Herr then defeated Dunmore 6-4, 6-4 in no. 4 singles, and Salinas defeated Alex Mackellar 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to tie the overall match at 4-4. Tarver fell to Martin 4-6, 4-6 in no. 6 match.
ETBU will next be home on Friday, March 31, vs. Louisiana College in ASC East play.
