TYLER, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University men's tennis team closed out their season with a loss in the American Southwest Conference Quarter Finals against Hardin-Simmons University, 5-1. ETBU fell behind 3-0 in doubles play, before falling in singles play.
HSU's Andrew Eurek and Alex Hunt defeated Andrew Deutsch and Connor Mason 8-0 in #1 doubles. Cody Highsmith and John Herr then battled to the end but fell in a tiebreaker, 9-7 in #2 doubles against Jordan Davis and Chandler Livingston. Joseph Salinas and Ty Tarver then lost in #3 singles in another tight match, 8-6, to B.J. Farmakis and Michael Boyd.
In singles play, Herr scored ETBU's lone match point with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Eurek. Hunt would defeat Mason 6-2, 6-0 to give HSU a 4-1 advantage. Griffin Weinkam defeated Deutsch 6-0, 6-1 to close out the match. Tarver and Highsmith were both up on their opponents when the match ended.
ETBU ends their season with a 7-11-1 overall record, and were 3-1 in ASC East Division play this season. They reached the ASC Tournament for a second straight season, and will look to build on this season next year as they do not graduate any seniors.
