JACKSON, Miss. – Sweeping through day one of the Millsaps College Invitational, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team shut out both Agnes Scott and Millsaps, 3-0. ETBU defeated Agnes Scott, 25-12, 25-17, and 25-19. In the second match, ETBU took all three sets vs. host Millsaps, 25-23, 28-26, and 25-19.
In the first match, it was close through the first 15 points as ETBU lead, 9-6. ETBU then went on a 10-4 run for a 19-10 lead.
Meredith Augsburger finished off set one with an ace, 25-12, for the 1-0 lead. Early on in set two, ETBU had a one-point lead, 10-9, before setting up another run to shift the momentum. A 7-4 run put ETBU up, 17-13, and then a block by
Paige Miller mad the score 22-15. ETBU went on to win, 25-17. Agnes Scott led early in set three, 9-7, before another ETBU run (7-2) put the Tigers ahead for good, 14-11.
Bailey Byas made it 22-17 with a kill as ETBU took the match, 25-19.
Sweeping host Millsaps in the night cap, ETBU moved to 2-0 on the year. Millsaps had an 11-8 lead in the first set and was up 20-17 before ETBU tied it at 22.
Gabrielle Jones had an impressive block to finish off set one, 25-23, in the comeback win. There were many ties in set two before ETBU took a 22-19 lead. The set was then tied again at 24 before
Paige Miller finished off the Majors with two big kills, 28-26.
ETBU will face LaGrange College and Rhodes College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
