@ETBU_Volleyball to battle four conference opponents this week

MARSHALL, TX- Last week's stunning 3-2 victory over the University of Texas-Dallas puts the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team at 1-0 in conference play and 5-8 overall. The Tigers hit the road for this week's ASC match against the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

The Patriots are currently sitting at 9-2 on the season coming off of an upset 3-2 loss to Belhaven College on Sat. Sept. 16 in the Dakotas Patriot Classic. The team is 2-1 in ASC play but have fallen in the last six meetings with the Tigers. ETBU has won 11-straight matches against the home team.

The Tigers will face a series of conference matches this week, as they take the cross-town trip to Longview, TX to compete in the ASC Crossover. ETBU is scheduled to face Concordia University (TX) to kick-off the tournament on Friday, Sept. 22. In the last meeting with the Tornados, the Tigers came away with the 3-1 victory. The team went 1-1 in the last season matchup and boasts an overall record of 13-9 against Concordia University.

The team will next face-off against Hardin-Simmons with the match set to take place at 5:00 p.m. The Tigers have taken the last three games against the Cowboys, including a 3-0 sweep last season. ETBU is 14-8 against HSU overall.

The final game of the ASC Crossover is a matchup against Sul Ross State on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Tigers are an impressive 19-0 against the Lobos heading into Saturday's contest.

Leading the attack for ETBU is freshman Natalie Coburn. The first year OH leads the team in kills this season, with 110 overall and 2.2 per set. Elyse Shaw continues to pace the offense leading the way in assists at 5.02 per set and 256 total on the season. Paige Miller mans the No. 1 spot in total service aces on the season with 18. Miller and sophomore Karina Lay both take the No. 1 spot in digs at 154. Bailey Byas rounds out the defensive effort with 27.0 blocks on the year.

Heading into this week's matchups, Head Coach Keely Peterson had this to say about the mindset of her team:
"I think the girls have bought into the attitude of fixing things for their team. We went into practice yesterday with that mentality that we're 1-0 and we've got to continue to grow. We want to end this week 5-0. That's our goal, so we have to make sure we've really fought through that and worked together on it."
