Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Despite outshooting the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team couldn't strike the ball in the back of the net as they fell 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU returns home to Marshall with a record of 2-5-1 and will host Howard Payne University in a non-conference match on Thursday.
ETBU hung tough with HSU for the first 61 minutes as neither team was able to tally a goal. HSU would finally get the first goal courtesy of Shayne Bryan on the assist by Ben Matthews in the 62nd minute. ETBU did have chances to equalize, but HSU goalkeeper Carlos Enriquez kept the Tigers at bay.
ETBU outshot the Cowboys 9-4 as both Max Ponticorvo and Danillo Martins had two shots each to lead the Tigers. Justin Groves started the game for ETBU and finished with one save.
ETBU will have a Tuesday game on the road against Millsaps College in Mississippi at 7:00 PM.
