Box Score JACKSON, MS.- Looking to add another shut out on the year, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team came into Harper Davis Field and delivered a dominating 3-0 victory over the Millsaps College Majors on Thursday night. The Tigers improve to 6-3-1 in after the non-conference win.
ETBU opened the match getting several good looks at the goal in the first period. A shot by
Hannah Murin went wide and another attempt by
Ashleigh Rondon was saved by Millsap's Olivia Gattuso.
The Majors refused to allow any goals in the first period, blocking several attempts by the Tigers and collecting a number of saves in the opening frame. On the other side of the field, ETBU didn't surrender a single look at the goal. The score was knotted at 0-0 heading into halftime.
The women's squad finally broke the scoring seal 17 minutes into the second half. Rondon scored her fifth goal of the season on a clean look at the goal and was able to bury the shot to give her team their first lead at 1-0.
At the 84:14 mark of the contest,
Chase Swann put points on the board for ETBU on a goal of her own to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
With only seven seconds remaining in the match, Murin put the finishing touches on the blue and gold's dominant effort. Murin buried a shot at the 89:53 mark of the game, bringing the final score to 3-0.
Despite 11 saves by the Majors, the Tigers put up 21 shots while only giving up three looks at the goal.
The Tigers will return home to face-off against American Southwest Conference rival Sul Ross State. The match is set to kick-off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.
