@ETBU_ Volleyball Will Host Back-to-Back Home Games This Week

MARSHALL, Texas-The road weary East Texas Baptist University volleyball team returns to Ornelas Gym for two matches this weekend after traveling the past two weeks. ETBU will host Louisiana College and Belhaven University in American Southwest Conference play on Friday and Saturday. ETBU is currently 6-11 overall and 2-3 in American Southwest Conference play this season.
ETBU opens on Friday against Louisiana College in Ornelas Gym at 7:00 p.m. LC, who is in their first season of play as a program, picked up their first set win against Hardin-Simmons last Friday during the ASC Crossover Tournament. The team is led by Jaslyn Bright, who averages 2.7 kills per set and has 92 kills on the year.

The Tigers will close out the week with a match against Belhaven University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ETBU has won the last five matches against the Blazers which were all three-set sweeps. Belhaven is 9-6 overall and 4-2 in ASC games this season.

Freshman Natalie Coburn and junior Allison Sevening share the top spot on the team in kills for ETBU. Both players have recorded 129 kills this season, averaging 2.25 and 2.14 kills per set, respectively. Elyse Shaw continues to pace the blue and gold offense with 327 assists this season. The junior is averaging 5.1 assists per set for ETBU to go along with 132 digs. Paige Miller leads the way on the defensive end with 210 digs. Rounding out the defensive effort is Sevening, who has managed 36 blocks and 0.56 per set.

Entering the two-game home stand, head coach Keely Peterson is hoping to see a well-rounded effort on the court. She says, "What I want to see is a team effort to really push us through. We have to all be accountable and work hard no matter who's on the court. We need to make sure that we're ready to take the win."

The two match home stand begins on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
