Box Score SEGUIN, Texas – The second match of the season saw the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team come to a draw after double overtime with Texas Lutheran University, 1-1. ETBU is now 0-1-1 on the year.
ETBU moved the ball well in the first half with several looks at the goal but were unable to breakthrough for a score. After a scoreless first half, ETBU came out firing in the second half ultimately scoring thanks to
Silas Sangano in the 54th minute while
Joel Botello got the assist. ETBU then held the Bulldogs scoreless for the next 29 minutes before TLU's Cameron Townes equalized with a goal from an assist by Agustin Cueva.
The Tigers did get one more shot in before the end of regulation. Overtime saw ETBU dominating with seven more shots while TLU failed to get one off. In the end, it was a draw after both teams battled.
ETBU outshot TLU 24-10 although both teams managed to get eight shots on goal. Seven Tigers each shot the ball three times including
Ivan Adams,
Max Ponticorvo,
Michael Andrews,
Daniel Lopez, Botello, Sagano, and
Dominic Wood. Townes led the way for TLU with three shots including two on net. Both goalkeepers in ETBU's
Bryant Botello and TLU's Brendan Soto made seven saves each.
ETBU resumes play by returning home for their first match of the year this Tuesday against Hendrix College at 7:00 p.m.
