PREVIEW: @ETBU_WS Travels East for ASC Play

MARSHALL, Texas – Pushing to get back into the American Southwest Conference tournament picture by the end of this weekend, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team heads out on the road again. This weekend, Jackson, Miss., and Pineville, La., will be the sites where ETBU will take on both Belhaven University and Louisiana College.

Last week saw ETBU come up empty against the University of Ozarks as they were shutout 2-0 at Cornish Field. ETBU was expecting to have their next game against the University of Texas Tyler but a severe weather cancelled the match.

ETBU is currently 5-6-1 overall and 2-5 in the ASC as they are one point out of the eighth seed. Ashleigh Rondon leads the Tigers with five goals and four assists to accumulate 14 points while she posts a team-leading 51 shots. Maddie Rea still has a goals against average of 2.20 while collecting 27 saves.

While 2018 has been an up-and-down season for the Tigers, head coach Erik Solberg still feels the Tigers are a unified team capable of pulling out a strong finish to the season. "I still feel like we're one cohesive unit," said Coach Solberg. "We're a very young team still learning how to work hard. We're learning how to finish our chances and how to face adversity and respond in the proper way. Sometimes we've done a brilliant job of doing that and sometimes we haven't. A part of that is growing pains."

ETBU's season continues with a road trip to BU to start the weekend. A season ago, ETBU won their Senior Day game against BU with a 5-1 win. This puts ETBU at 3-4-1 all-time vs. the Blazers, who are currently 2-11-1 overall and 1-7 in ASC play. BU fell last week, 5-1, to Sul Ross State University. Erica Rempel is the top goal scorer with six while Jennifer Hosey has dished out two assists. Georgia Jordan has a GAA of 3.18 while making 67 saves in goal.

The Tigers then head to Pineville, La., to match up against the Wildcats of LC. In 22 matches all-time, including last season's 4-0 win at Cornish Field, ETBU has dropped one game all-time to the Wildcats. LC is a 1-10-1 overall and are 0-7-1 in the ASC after falling 2-0 to Sul Ross State. Ashlynn Folse has two goals to lead the team while both Maylen Mire and Larisa Soliz have an assist for the season. Haley Clark has a GAA of 3.45 while collecting 59 saves in goal.

The Tigers weekend starts at 5:00 PM Thursday at BU and ends with a 12:00 PM game on Saturday at LC.
