PREVIEW: @ETBU_VB Hosting LeTourneau and Playing Two Road Games This Week

MARSHALL, Texas - Having spent a week off following their last match in Tyler, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team will return to Ornelas Gymnasium to compete in their final home game of the season on Tuesday night. ETBU will be hosting their conference rival LeTourneau University on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. They will also finish out the regular season with two non-conference games in Conway, Arkansas against Hendrix College and Rhodes College.

Last week, ETBU traveled to Tyler for a non-conference matchup against the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots. The Tigers were unable to pick up a win as they fell in three straight sets to UTT. Sydney Lopez led the way with nine kills while Cassidy Zellmer collected 16 assists and Julia De Los Santos had a team-high 11 digs on the night.

ETBU overall is 12-13 on the season, but they remain in second of the ASC East Division with a 6-7 record. Lopez remains ETBU's leader in kills with 206 while Elyse Shaw has the assist lead with 463. Lizeth Flores is still ETBU's top blocker with 44 while De Los Santos continues to maintain the digs lead at 281.

The Tigers will look to avenge a four-set loss to the Yellow Jackets of LETU earlier in the season. That loss made ETBU's all-time record against LETU at 32-4. Currently, the Yellow Jackets are 7-19 overall, but are currently third in the ASC conference with a 4-9 record. This comes in the midst of a current eight-match losing streak, including a 3-0 loss to St. Thomas University in Houston. Kianna Crow is the leader with 323 kills while Cam Taylor has 453 assists. Liz Williams is on top of the digging category with 299 digs on the season.

Playing LETU on a night for awareness will make the match more than just the Battle of the Blues as head coach Keely Peterson explains. "We're really just going to bring awareness and just have people who have been affected by them stand up and be honored," said Coach Peterson. "Breast cancer is something near and dear to a lot of people's hearts here. It's something that's dear to this team. So we're excited to honor the people that are continuously battling, but make sure there's a remembrance for those that maybe didn't come out on top."

Saturday will see ETBU head to Conway for two games in the Conway Classic against HC and RC. It has been three seasons since the Tigers last played HC, who swept them back in 2015. HC is bringing an 18-6 record to the match after losing their Senior Day match against Sewanee: The University of the South in five matches. Lauren Dwyer has 255 kills and 31 service aces to lead the Warriors while Jeanette McGrath has 403 digs. Both Claire Smith (427) and Amber Melcher (421) are in the 400-assist club being six assists apart from each other.

Meanwhile, RC is 13-11 overall after defeating Centre College in four sets. Kelsey Grasper has a team-leading 193 kills while Marissa Hall has 399 assists. Mary Frances Daniel has 474 digs for the Lynx. ETBU last took on RC in last year's Millsaps Invitational where they fell in five hard-fought sets.

Tuesday night's game against LETU will be at 7:00 PM while Saturday's matchups against HC and RC will be at 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM respectively.
