Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

@ETBU_WS Season Ends in ASC Tournament First Round

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hanging tough with the second-seeded University of Texas Dallas in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team held the game scoreless for seventy-five minutes until the Comets scored two goals ending the Tiger's hope of an upset. ETBU finishes their season at 8-8-1.

Ashleigh Rondon and Cara Hunt both had two shots while Gabrielle Henley had the other shot for the Tigers. In goal, Claire Montondon picked up nine saves with two goals against. Jessica Rusk and Sofia Munoz both had four shots to lead the Comets with Munoz scoring a goal along with Keely Fillman. Goalkeeper Monica Dallacasa only collected three saves.

The first half would see UTD controlling much of the possession on ETBU's side of the field. Starting with two shots in the first five minutes, the Comets were denied by Montondon, who made two saves. ETBU would not get their first shot of the game until 13:41, when a save was made by Dallacasa. The Tigers would continue to thwart off more UTD chances. Some key plays included Kibriana Bonner (40:43) preventing an empty net goal while Montondon would make a diving save at 43:49. Despite being outshot 16-2 in the first half, the Tigers went into halftime with a scoreless tie.

The second half would start to see a bit of role reversal as the Tigers came out with two shots in the first three minutes (46:45, 47:48). ETBU's defense then held UTD to three shots for the next 27 minutes with Montondon coming up big with two saves (56:31, 67:03) while the Tigers would get their final shot of the game at 57:56. Unfortunately, the Comets would finally get on the board at 74:58 with a goal from Munoz. This swung the momentum in UTD's favor as they would prevent any offensive opportunities being created by ETBU. Eleven minutes later at 85:58, UTD would seal the victory with an insurance goal from Fillman to lead 2-0. Although ETBU would not score a goal, they kept on fighting to the final buzzer.

ETBU says good bye to two seniors in Megan Friend and Cristal Monzon-Hernandez. Friend becomes the only ETBU women's soccer player to participate in four ASC Tournaments.
