MARSHALL, Texas – Coming back from a 3-1 deficit, the East Texas Baptist University softball gave their fans a home opener treat by rallying to win 7-5 against Centenary College. This win puts ETBU on the right note as they are 1-0.
Daniella Solis picked up three hits for ETBU and drove in an RBI while
Sabrina Salts had two hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer to lead ETBU's offense.
Rocki Tello started the game by going 3.1 IP allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two batters. But
McKayla Hendrix finished the game by going 3.2 IP, allowing two runs and striking out two batters. Amberlee Nix started the game for CC going 3.0 IP allowing two runs on two hits and striking out six. However, Nicole Aldridge would take the loss going 0.2 IP allowing four runs on four hits.
Tello started the game by pitching a 1-2-3 top of the first inning. ETBU would start a two-out rally with back-to-back walks to
Linzie Lewis and Solis before Salts popped up to second. One scoreless second inning later, CC would get the first run of the game when the Ladies loaded the bases before Margeaux Smith was hit by a pitch to make it 1-0. Tello then retired the next two hitters on a fielder's choice and a strikeout.
ETBU then answered in the bottom of the third when they loaded the bases as well before Salts hit a sacrifice fly to tie it at 1-1. CC struck back when Anna Dunn homered to give the Ladies a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. They would then score the third run during a caught stealing attempt for a 3-1 lead. ETBU would then rally in the bottom half of the fourth as
Jackie Ramos delivered a one-out single while
Morgan Arst scored on an error making it 3-2. One out later, Lewis tied the game with a single to left scoring Ramos. Solis tripled to centerfield scoring Lewis for a 4-3 lead before Salts drilled the two-run homer to make it 6-3.
The top of the sixth saw CC put the first two runs sending the tying run to the play. But Hendrix kept the tying run at the plate for the next three outs preserving the three-run lead. ETBU would then add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Salts would hit an RBI double scoring
Nikki Gil and giving ETBU a 7-3 lead. CC would then score two runs on an RBI double and groundout to second before Hendrix got the final out on a groundout to short.
ETBU will head out to Pineville, Louisiana to take on Louisiana College this weekend. Friday's doubleheader will start at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM while Saturday's game will start at 12:00 PM.
