SHREVEPORT, La. – On the second day of the Centenary College Classic, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team split their games to move to 1-2 on the year. ETBU won their first game of the year, 5-4, over Pacific University but then fell to Whitworth University, 6-2.

A clutch hit along with a throwing error led to a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth inning for ETBU earning their first win of the year. KJ Miller hit into a fielder's choice that allowed
Jonathon Sylvester to advance to third and then a Pacific throwing error brought him home for the winning run.
John Marrs, who pitched two innings, received the win in his first collegiate outing. ETBU finished with six hits as
Seth Mikeska,
Zach Gartner,
Landen Barns,
Dylan Sumpter, Miller, and
Mason Aldredge all had one hit. Mikeska led the team with two RBI as Miller and Aldredge each had one RBI.
Mikeska put ETBU on the board in the second inning with a single to left field that brought in Barns and
Casey Combs. Pacific struck back in the third to tie the game at two only to see ETBU score two runs in the fifth inning. Miller earned a RBI with a sacrifice fly as Zach McAdams came in. Aldredge then doubled in Sumpter making it 4-2. Pacific added a run in the seventh and then the eighth to tie it at four. It stayed that way until an error in the ninth allowed the win for ETBU.
Whitworth 6, ETBU 2
Whitworth scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to take break the tie handing ETBU their second loss of the year.
Alek Arellano received the loss going 1.2 innings and recording one strikeout as three runs were charged to him.
Call Florence received the start and went four innings recording three strikeouts and giving up one earned run.
Jordan O'Bannon followed going three innings with three strikeouts and no runs. Arellano then went 1.2 innings as
Taylor Knowles pitched 0.1 innings giving up one run.
Gartner and Singletary led the team with two hits each. ETBU had eight hits overall as Aldredge, Barns, McAdams, and Sumpter all had one hit. Gartner had the extra base hit with a triple.
Whitworth went up 2-0 on ETBU with a run in the first and second inning. Singletary cut the lead to one in the bottom of the second inning with a single to centerfield as Barns came in. In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs, Gartner tripled in Aldredge to tie the game at two. Whitworth then hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth to take a 6-2 and go on for the win.
ETBU travels to Georgetown, Texas, next weekend for a three-game series with Southwestern University.
