TYLER, Texas – The quest for a repeat championship came to an end in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semi-finals as the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team fell to the University of Texas Dallas, 5-1. ETBU finishes their season at 6-10.
ETBU came away with one doubles point as the pair of Jabree McClaine and Tess Willis at number two doubles put up an 8-3 win. Both Elisa Kendall and Kaleigh Smith (#1 Doubles) and Mullika Seekhieo and Ashley Schenck (#3 Doubles) fell 8-4 in their doubles matches.
UTD would need just three singles matches to take the match win and that is what happened. UTD won the number one, three, and four singles and ETBU didn't have a chance to win any more matches. By the time the match had finished, ETBU was up in two matches as Smith (#3 Singles, 2-6, 6-2, 2-3) and Schenck (#6 singles, 6-4, 3-4) took one set in their unfinished matches.
This is the fourth straight season that ETBU has played in the ASC Tournament. They have won a match in the in the tournament in the past three years and were the 2017 ASC Tournament Champions. ETBU has only had a program for seven years.
