MARSHALL, Texas – After a successful preseason, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team will begin the American Southwest Conference portion of their schedule taking on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia (TX). The first match is set for Thursday, Sept. 13. ETBU enters the conference portion of their schedule with an overall record of 2-1-1.
Leading the way for the Tigers is sophomore
Ashleigh Rondon, who has tallied two goals and three assists for a total of 7 points thus far on the year. Three other players are tied for goals made at two, in
Raegan Kappler, Jena Kucera and
Kendall Shirley. Kucera and Kappler each have five points, with two goals made and an assist.
As a team, ETBU has made 10 goals for an average of 2.5 goals per game. The Tigers have put up a total of 71 shots this season and have only surrendered 49 to the opposing teams. ETBU has also accumulated eight assists and 18 saves on the year.
UMHB enters Thursday's contest with a record of 1-2-1. The Cru fell to the University of Puget Sound 4-1 in Tacoma, Wash. In the last meeting against ETBU, neither team was able to find the net for the entire game, resulting in a stalemate at 0-0 from Cornish Field. In the overall series, ETBU is 9-6-3 against UMHB.
Closing out the short road trip will be a contest against Concordia – Texas on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Tornados are 1-2 on the season, with their only win coming against Our Lady of the Lake (3-2). Last year's contest with ETBU ended with CTX falling to the Tigers 2-1 from Cornish Field. In the overall series, ETBU holds the edge, at 9-5-2.
With the most important time of the year getting underway for ETBU, Head Coach
Erik Solberg talked about the mindset of the team heading into the toughest stretch of the schedule.
"There's no easy matches left for us. We didn't respond to adversity well in our last game, so we're going to use that as motivation this week. Playing our style and being confident in who we have out there on the field is going to be key for us," Solberg said.
ETBU will match up with UMHB on Thursday, Sept. 13 from Round Rock, Texas. The match is set to kick-off at 11:00 a.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
