Box Score ROUND ROCK, Texas – Unable to overcome an aggressive attack by the home team, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-0 in the first American Southwest Conference match of the year. With the loss, ETBU drops to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in ASC play.
Silas Sangano and
Thomas Sanford were the only two players to record shot attempts for ETBU, with one each. On the defensive end,
Bryant Botello snagged six saves in the contest. Patrick Roach scored both goals for the Cru, putting up seven shots, with five coming right at the net. As a team, UMHB attempted 14 total shots and eight on goal.
It was Roach that broke the scoring seal early in the match, with 7:27 on the game clock to put UMHB on top 1-0 in the first period. The Tigers managed to hold UMHB to a one goal lead headed into halftime with their own defensive effort.
Roach would respond with yet another goal at the 59:14 mark of the second period, increasing the lead to 2-0 for the Cru.
It would take ETBU down to the 89:20 mark of the game to finally get a shot attempt inside the net, but it was saved by Travis Aday.
ETBU will return to the Round Rock Multisports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 15, for an ASC match against Concordia-Texas at 3:30 p.m.
