PREVIEW: @ETBU_Football Opens ASC Play vs. Southwestern

MARSHALL, Texas – Hosting their second straight home game at Ornelas Stadium in 2018, the East Texas Baptist University football team will take on Southwestern University on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. It is Childhood Cancer Awareness Night as it will be a Gold Out in support of all the children fighting cancer.

ETBU is currently 0-1 and coming off a season opening loss to Wisconsin-Platteville, 59-44. It was a tail of two halves as ETBU held a 20-point lead at the half, 37-17, only to give up 35 unanswered points in the third quarter. Brian Baca threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns as Richard Johnson was on the receiving end of two of those passes. Jacque Kuykendall led the team in receiving with 132 yards on three catches. Jeremiah Robertson had 20 carries for 85 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Zack Biles led the team with 13 tackles and one interception. ETBU put up 505 yards of total offense with 176 yards on the ground.

Southwestern is coming to Ornelas Stadium at 2-0 and 1-0 in the American Southwest Conference. They have wins over Denison University, 42-21, and McMurry University, 37-6. They are averaging 39.5 points per game with 484 yards of total offense as 297 of that is on the ground. Frederick Hover is the offensive leader averaging 110 yards passing and 53 yards rushing. Kalon Heim has 251 yards on 30 rushes averaging 125.5 yards per game. He is also the top receiver with three receptions for 116 yards. Defensively they give up just 13.5 points per game and 295 yards of total offense. They are led by Hayden Smith who has 18 tackles with two sacks. Ben Brockman also has 18 tackles and half a sack.
