MARSHALL, Texas – After an unbeaten Labor Day weekend to start their season, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team will continue their five-game road trip this weekend as they head out to Sherman, Texas and Memphis, Tenn., for games against Austin College and Rhodes College respectively. ETBU will not be back at home until September 20
th.
This past weekend saw ETBU pick up a 2-2 tie against Schreiner University. After giving up two early second half goals, ETBU rallied with two goals from
Kendall Shirley before the end of regulation. Then, on Monday, ETBU shut out Mississippi University for Women, 2-0, as goals came from
Jenna Kucera and
Gabrielle Henley.
Impressed by the win, head coach
Erik Solberg was pleased with the performance of the team all throughout the game. "I thought it was a total team effort," said coach Solberg. "I thought it started from the back. We had good goalkeeping. We got great play from our center backs. The back line played really great. The outside backs attacked a lot, but also defended and kept us in good shape. They gave us a clean sheet, our first shutout of the season. So I'm really proud of that. We had good work in the midfield and won a lot of balls in the air. We had good moments of possession and we did what we had to do moving forward."
The other part of this week after the holiday, ETBU travels to Sherman, Texas, on Thursday to take on AC. Last season, ETBU shut out the Roos 4-0 at Cornish Field. In that game,
Raegan Kappler,
Hannah Murin,
Ashleigh Rondon, and
Maya Padilla each had a goal while Kappler and Kucera had an assist in the game. All-time however, AC holds a 16-4-1 margin in 21 meetings between the schools.
Then on Sunday, ETBU will take on RC. ETBU will look to pick up their first win all-time in their sixth meeting against the Lynx with the last game being a 1-0 loss back in 2010.
ETBU's Thursday game will be at 6:00 PM and Sunday's game will take place at 1:00 PM.
