MARSHALL, Texas – Continuing their home stand this week, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball will host two more games at Ornelas Gym hosting both Louisiana College and Belhaven University. ETBU is ranked 15
th/16
th in the latest D3hoops.com/WBCA National Poll and is 13-2 overall and 6-2 in ASC East play.
Last week ETBU went 1-1 with a road loss to the #23 University of Texas Dallas, 73-61.
Kim Childress (16 points),
Kendrick Clark (15 points) and
Amanda Wilson (10 points) each scored in double figures. Clark would then lead ETBU with 18 points in their 72-46 non-conference win over Centenary College while
Hanna Hudson tallied a career high 12 points.
ETBU now finds themselves in a three-way tie at the top of the division along with UTD and the University of Ozarks at 6-2. Averaging 74.2 points per game while surrendering 52.7 ppg, ETBU's scoring leader is still Clark, who averages 14.9 ppg.
Anna Moss leads with 4.5 rebounds per game while
Sydney Saxton continues to lead the team in assists with 3.8 per game.
ETBU continues to be ranked nationally in the top 25. But all of that has no bearing on the motivation of head coach
Rusty Rainbolt and his team. "We want to keep things in perspective," said Coach Rainbolt. "It's not that we don't care. But it doesn't matter. This team is only as valuable as its ability to promote the gospel. Whether we're 13-2 right now, people will focus more on those two losses more than the thirteen wins. Ultimately, if we can win and honor the lord, we can lose and still honor the lord. That's what we want is just for him to get all the glory."
This week will see ETBU take on both LC and BU at home. Both teams are currently fighting for control of the number four seed in the ASC East Division at 3-4. Last season saw ETBU split their games with LC while sweeping BU. The Wildcats enter Thursday night at 6-8 overall as they currently average 70.1 ppg. Kourtney McGhee (14.8 ppg), Jayla Landrum (11.0 ppg), and Janae Smith (10.3 ppg) average double figures scoring with Landrum also leading the team in rebounds (5.6 rpg) while McGhee has dished out 45 assists on the season.
The Blazers will be Saturday's opponent for ETBU. BU is averaging 61.9 ppg with Lauren Brooks leading the team with 11.6 ppg along with 9.5 rpg. Aaliyaha Thornton averages 3.9 assists per game.
ETBU's Thursday night game begins at 5:30 PM while Saturday's game starts at 1:00 PM.
