PREVIEW: @ETBU_WBSK to Kick off 2019 at Home This Weekend

MARSHALL, Texas - After enjoying a nice Christmas break, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team is set to return to the court for 2019. They will start the second half of the season by continuing conference play when they host the two ASC schools from Abilene this weekend in both McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University.

It's been almost a month since ETBU last played in a conference game when they defeated LeTourneau University 75-44. Kendrick Clark (16 points), Amanda Wilson (13 points), Kim Childress (11 points) and Taylor Singleton (11 points) each scored in double figures for the game while the Tigers' defense held LETU to 29.4% made field goals.

ETBU finished the first half scoring 76.3 points per game while holding opponents to 52.4 ppg. Clark finished ahead of all players with 14.4 ppg. Anna Moss is currently ahead in rebounds averaging 5.5 per game while sharing the blocks lead of nine with Amanda Wilson. Taylor Singleton dishes out 3.5 assists per game to take the lead in that category while Valerie Matlock has a team-high 32 steals.

Set to resume this week, ETBU starts off with McM in their second meeting against the War Hawks. Last time, ETBU picked up a dominant 86-52 road win. That game saw Kendrick Clark and Mallory Stephens each tally 12 points to lead their team.

Right now, McM is currently 4-9 overall while holding a 1-3 conference record. They enter the game on a two-game winning streak after picking up wins against Manchester University and Covenant College (GA.). Averaging 60.5 ppg, McM still has Skyler Reyna leading with 12.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg. Isabel Carrion leads McM in assists with 3.5 while Dominique Machuca has a team-high 25 steals.

The weekend concludes with ETBU taking on the Cowgirls of HSU. A season ago, the Tigers came away with a 78-63 triumph in Abilene. At this point, HSU is 8-4 after pulling off a dramatic upset win over the University of Texas Dallas. The Cowgirls average 68.9 ppg as a team with Taylor Gaffney averaging 14.7 ppg. Keilee Burke crashes the boards as she grabs 9.3 rpg while Maria Fernandez dishes out an average of 3.7 apg.

Thursday's game against McM starts at 5:30 PM while Saturday will have a 1:00 PM tipoff.
