MARSHALL, Texas – Getting ready for another week of volleyball, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team will he dealing with a home and away this week. Their away game will be in Houston at the University of St. Thomas (Texas) while their home contest is against Louisiana College.
It will also be senior night on Friday as ETBU will honor five members of their team in
Bailey Byas,
Alexis Contos,
Amy Frias,
Gabrielle Guy and
Sydney Lopez.
Byas (Pearland, TX) spent all four seasons at ETBU, where she was named a two-time ASC All-Academic and was selected as a member of the All-ASC Honorable Mention team in 2018. In 92 matches, Byas has collected 537 kills, 24 assists, 134 blocks, and 246 digs.
Contos (Burleson, TX) is also a four-year player who has 189 kills, 18 assists, 65 digs, and 108 blocks through the 80 career matches in her career.
Frias (La Porte, TX) is a three-year player who joined ETBU in 2017 and earned an ASC All-Academic award in 2018. Playing 30 matches, she recorded 104 digs and 10 service aces.
Guy (Tomball, TX) spent three seasons with ETBU and has recorded 48 assists, 353 digs, and nine service aces throughout her tenure.
Lopez (Waller, TX) was honored with an ASC All-Academic, All-ASC East First Team, and ASC East Division Player of the Week honors. She has 365 kills, 449 digs, 24 service aces, and 36 blocks in 64 total matches played.

- In the win over SRSU, Bailey Byas led the team with 14 kills. Cassidy Zellmer produced a team-high 21 assists while Savannah Stanley recorded a season high 33 digs
- ETBU defeated UST in five sets back on August 30th. Kennedy Peacock led with a career-high 19 kills. Julia De Los Santos contributed 28 digs and Zellmer had 22 assists
- ETBU took a five set victory over Louisiana College back on September 21st. Byas led ETBU with 16 kills and was one dig shy of a double-double. De Los Santos led the team with 27 digs while Zellmer recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 15 digs
- Recorded 968 kills (11.0 per set), 848 assists (9.6 per set) and 1578 digs (17.9 per set)
- Allie Fennell recently reached the 200-kill milestone and leads with 201
- Zellmer is 21 assists away from 400 on the season and also leads with 27 service aces
- De Los Santos had 262 digs to lead the team
- Lizeth Flores has 44 blocks
UST
- 8-16 overall following a four set loss to #8 Trinity University
- 3-2 against ASC competition this with wins over Letourneau, Sul Ross State and LC plus losses to ETBU and Concordia-Texas
- Last defeated ETBU in 2011 as a NAIA member
- UST is transitioning to NCAA Division III from the NAIA and is in their first-year of NCAA status
- Collecting 833 kills (10.5/set), 766 assists (9.7/set) and 1627 digs (20.6/set)
- Alaina Lanik leads with 201 kills and 28 service aces
- Kelsie Walker has a team-high 408 assists
- Kaylyn Latin has 432 digs, which leads the Celts
