MARSHALL, Texas – Honoring their five seniors with a dominating performance, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team cruised to a three-set win over Louisiana College winning 25-14, 25-14, 25-7. ETBU is 13-12 overall and 6-7 in the American Southwest Conference.
Annie Harris led the Tigers with 11 kills while teammate
Meredith Augsburger recorded 15 assists.
Amy Frias would have a team-high 13 digs in the win.
Bailey Byas (three blocks, seven digs) and
Alexis Contos would have six and five kills respectively.
Trading points at the start of the first set, the Tigers would take a 3-3 score up to 11-4 on an 8-1 run as Boswell and Harris combined for five kills in the stretch. The lead would then be extended to 17-8 before the Wildcats would make it as close as 19-11. Byas would contribute with two kills, including one that ended the first set 25-14 in ETBU's favor.
ETBU notched two straight points starting in the second set before LC would manage to rally for their first lead of the contest. But ETBU then took control as they would tally six straight points on their way to a 10-1 run for a 13-5 lead. Another surge of eight of the next 10 points would bring the score to 21-7. The Wildcats would reach double-digits, but the set was out of reach as the Tigers would pick up their second 25-14 set win.
The Tigers easily had set three started off right with five consecutive points before LC got on the board. Two straight kills by Harris and a service ace from Byas would push ETBU to an 11-2 edge. The lead would never get down as much as single digits for the remainder of the match and it was only fitting that ETBU would have
Sydney Lopez end the match with a kill.
ETBU will play in their final home match on Tuesday at 6:00 PM against Belhaven University.
