PREVIEW: @ETBU_Football Set to Host Howard Payne for Homecoming

MARSHALL, Texas –Looking to pick up their fourth American Southwest Conference win, the East Texas Baptist University football team will host Howard Payne University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for homecoming. The tigers are currently 3-3 on the year and 3-2 in the ASC.

MARSHALL, Texas – Taking possession of the football for only 17 minutes, the East Texas Baptist University football team unloaded for 676 total yards of total offense and 54 points as they won their third game of the year besting Howard Payne. ETBU never lost the lead in the 54-28 win over the Yellow Jackets on Tackle Cancer night. The 676 yards of total offense is the most that ETBU has gained this year topping 544 yards at Belhaven.
Offensively, Brian Baca went 14-of-26 for 314 yards, including four passing touchdowns. Justin Ward broke the 100-yard rushing barrier with 104 yards while Dominic Haggerty added 99 yards rushing and one touchdown. Richard Johnson led ETBU with 87 yards receiving on four receptions while catching his 34th career touchdown pass breaking the previous mark of 33 held by Tyler Bates. Kane Johnson, Gavin Raines, and Tarek Beaugard all had a receiving touchdown.
On defense, Garrett Gibson had 14 tackles while Quaylon Beckley added 10 tackles. Zack Walker picked up a sack-and-a-half while Malik Mason intercepted a pass. HPU quarterback Gage McClanahan went 23-of-38 with 279 yards passing while Kaidrion Latson rushed for a team-high 78 yards. Defensively, Britt Boler, collected 11 tackles while Austin Kilgore 1.5 tackles for loss.

Scouting Howard Payne
Howard Payne is 2-4 and 1-4 in the ASC, and coming off a 27-14 loss to Texas Lutheran. After starting the season 2-0 with wins over Austin College and McMurry University, the yellow jackets have lost four straight.

Averaging 26.50 points per game, HPU is led by Caleb Estes's 1202 passing yards and 13 touchdowns. Billy Reagins is the leading rusher at 227 yards on 35 carries averaging 6.5 yards per carry with one touchdown. Thomas Williams has 380 yards receiving on 18 receptions and four touchdowns. DunTayviun Gross has 312 yards receiving on 33 receptions and five touchdowns. Defensively, Austin Kilgore leads the team with 48 tackles. Connor Day has two interceptions while Corey Perkins has one. The defense is allowing 42.17 points per game and 483 yards of total offense.

Hat Trick Football Style
Grant LaPoint-Teate recorded a career-high three interceptions against McMurry. The first one happened in the second quarter when he picked off a thirty-yard pass from the quarterback at the four-yard line. In the third quarter, his second interception happened at the 40-yard line of ETBU to keep the Tigers up two scores. With nine minutes to play and the War Hawks trailing, 21-19, he stole McM's momentum with his third interception of the game in the end zone for a touchback. Aside from the interceptions, he also recorded four solo tackles, including one for loss, and also broke up a pass. He was named ASC Defensive Player of The Week for his performance against McM.

Can't Spell Sack without "AC"
Senior Linebacker Anton Clark picked up 2.5 sacks against McMurry to bring his season sack total to 6.5 on the season, which is tied for 1st in the ASC. In addition to the sacks, Clark racked up 13 total tackles and three tackles for loss in the against McM. He currently leads the ASC in TFL and is tied for 2nd in total tackles.

100 Yard Club
Jeramiah Robertson joined the 100-yard rushing club for the third time this season as he picked up 129 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown in the win against McMurry. Robertson ran for over 100 yards against TLU (150) and Sul Ross (115). Robertson currently has 473 rushing yards on the year, which is good enough for third in the ACS to go along with seven scores, which ties him for first.

Blanton does it again
Jalen Blanton caught a receiving touchdown for the third straight game this season, as he was able to haul in a TD against the warhawks. Blanton now has five touchdowns on the year, which has him tied for third in the ASC ranks.

Baca Watch
Brian Baca moved up on two lists this past week after a strong game vs. McMurry. He is now second all-time in completions going from third to second jumping Phil Van Cleave (2003-06) with 444. Baca now sits at second on the all-time passing touchdowns list. He needs three passing touchdowns to jump into the number one spot.
