MARSHALL, Texas – Playing on back-to-back days due to the weather on Thursday night, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team came up short against McMurry University, 3-0. ETBU is now 3-7-1 and 0-4-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
ETBU recorded 10 shots in the match with six coming in the first half.
Raegan Kappler had four shots while
Ashleigh Rondon posted three shots with two on goal.
Katelynn Smith added two shots and
Olivia Gallegos had one. Maddie Rae stopped six shots facing 21 overall with 10 on goal from McMurry.
Coming out the gates firing shots, ETBU had a shot on goal in the sixth minute and two more shots in the eighth and ninth minute. Both teams were matching their shots in the first 15 minutes as McMurry had five shots with two that were saved by Rae. McMurry put their first goal on the board in the 25
th minute but ETBU threatened in the 36
th minute on a shot by Rondon on goal and Smith's shot on goal in the 40
th minute. McMurry held onto the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
It was a different story the second half as McMurry took the momentum early scoring in the 54
th and 57
th minutes for the 3-0 lead. ETBU had a chance to score in the 69
th minute on a penalty kick but it hit the top of the cross bar. ETBU took two more shots in the 82
nd and 84
th minutes but couldn't find the net.
ETBU will host Belhaven University on Thursday, October 10
th, at 5:00 p.m.
