LONGVIEW, Texas - After winning the first set, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team fell in three straight set losses to LeTourneau University, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 12-25. The Tigers drop to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the American Southwest Conference East Division.
Allie Fennell led ETBU with 11 kills as
Cassidy Zellmer had 21 assists while
Gabrielle Guy produced a team-high 21 digs.
Sydney Lopez contributed 10 digs off the bench while Sophie Britton added nine assists. LETU was led by Kianna Crow, who posted a double-double with 21 kills and 18 digs while Natalie Davenport posted a game-high 50 assists.
ETBU took the first set, 25-22, after being down 17-15. They battled back to tie the match at 18 and kept the momentum extending the lead to 24-20. LETU pulled to within, 24-22, before winning 25-22 on an attack error from LETU.
Set too was the momentum changer as ETBU was up 17-12 only to see LETU comeback to win, 25-23. LETU won seven of the next eight points to take a 19-18 lead. ETBU tied it at 19 and 21 but LETU won four of the last six points to tie it at one set each. In set three, ETBU came within 18-16 but LETU won seven of the last nine points for the 25-18 win and the 2-1 lead. LETU took a 5-0 lead in set four and never looked back in the 25-12 win to seal the match win.
ETBU will head on the road to Richardson, Texas, with a 2:00 PM start this Saturday at the University of Texas Dallas.
