Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Soccer Freezes Out LETU on Senior Night

MARSHALL, Texas - Paying tribute to two seniors in Max Ponticorvo and Dominic Wood, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team had a hat-trick performance by freshman Isaiah Simien on their way to a 4-0 shutout win over LeTourneau University. ETBU finishes the regular season 7-10 overall and 6-5 in American Southwest Conference. With the win, ETBU qualifies for the ASC Tournament and will be the #6 seed.

Simien's three goals came off four shots on goal, which was also the highest among ETBU players. Silas Sangano and Samuel Arellano each recorded an assist while Juan Cairo would notch the fourth goal for the Tigers. Justin Groves picks up his third straight win and second shutout of the season stopping all five shots on goal by LETU.

Each team would have two shots in the first 16 minutes of the contest. But then, Simien would strike for the Tigers in the 18th minute for an early 1-0 lead. The next three minutes saw LETU put up three shots with two of them being saved by Groves. The Yellow Jackets would not get another opportunity as ETBU held them spotless for the remainder of the half. Simien decided to tack on a second goal in the 41st minute for a 2-0 lead entering halftime.

Neither side would be able to score in the first 29 minutes of the second half. LETU would then commit a penalty inside the box and Simien would complete his hat trick in the 75th minute on a penalty kick. Eight minutes later, Juan Cairo had his name on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season putting the game out of reach, 4-0.

ETBU will now face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
