MARSHALL, Texas – Ending the year looking for their fifth straight winning season, the East Texas Baptist University football team will battle for "The Claw" in Pineville, La., against Louisiana College. ETBU has won the last four meetings and won the last two meetings in Pineville in  2018 and 2016.

ETBU 48, LC 27 (Oct. 20, 2018)
PINEVILLE, La. – Keeping the "Border Claw" for a fourth year in a row, East Texas Baptist University never lost the lead in a 48-27 victory over Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference play. LC pulled within 14 points with, 41-27, with 11 minutes left in the game but strong defensive play ended any threat of a Wildcat comeback. ETBU is now 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the ASC.
 
Jeremiah Robertson had a career day with 17 rushes for 157 yards and one touchdown. 
Brian Baca threw five touchdown passes and was 17-for-30 for 199 yards. 
Tarek Beaugard finished with 98 yards receiving on three receptions and one touchdown. 
Richard Johnson, 
Jauque Kuykendall, 
Dominic Haggerty, and 
Gavin Raines also had receiving touchdowns.
 
The defense only allowed LC one third down conversion all night (1-of-15) and one fourth down (1-of-5) was made. 
Tremell Scott led the team with eight tackles with both Zack Biles and 
Garrett Gibson had six tackles. 
Aaron Buckley recorded two interceptions for 148 yards and one touchdown while 
Hardy Hill also had a pick.

ETBU is looking for their fifth straight winning season that began in 2015 under head coach Joshua Eargle. Head Coach 
Brian Mayper is looking to become the first head coach to achieve back-to-back winning seasons since Ralph Harris achieved this in 2002 and 2003. It would also be the eighth winning season in program history.

Kelley's Career High
In the last game vs. Hardin-Simmons, 
KJ Kelley recorded a season high 17 tackles. This included 10 solo and seven assisted tackles on the day. This was his second double-digit tackle game after he recorded 10 (five solo, five assisted) against Belhaven University.
 
Studs on D
This season saw ETBU take home four ASC Players of the Week honors. Three of them came on defense as 
Anton Clark, 
Grant LaPoint-Teate, and Kelley were the recipients. Against Belhaven, Clark recorded a career-high 15 tackles, including a forced fumble on a sack while breaking up one pass. He finished with 2.5 tackles for a loss of 13 yards and 1.5 sacks.
LaPoint-Teate intercepted three passes against McMurry while recording four solo tackles with one for a loss and he also broke up a pass.
Kelley also had a three-interception game. But his came against Southwestern while breaking up a pass as well.
 
Baca Made A Name in the Record Books
Brian Baca completed 18-of-33 passes against Hardin-Simmons. This means he is the second ETBU quarterback with over 800 passing attempts and is 17 completions away from 500 on the season. He also achieved over 7,000 yards throughout his career. This is where he stands right now.
