MARSHALL, Texas – Facing their second nationally ranked opponent this season, the East Texas Baptist University football team is hosting #16 Hardin-Simmons University in the final home game of the year. Before the game, ETBU will honor five seniors along with a ceremony unveiling the "My Brother's Keeper" statue in memory of Darrian "D.J." McClintock, Jr., and Norvontre "Tre" Harrison.

#7 HSU 59, ETBU 17
ABILENE, Texas – In their toughest road trip to date, the East Texas Baptist University football team fell to #7 Hardin-Simmons University, 59-17, in American Southwest Conference play.
Brian Baca completed 16-of-29 passing for 176 yards while rushing in for two touchdowns.
Justin Ward was ETBU's top rusher with 62 yards on 10 carries while
Tarek Beaugard had a team-leading 71 yards on three receptions. Defensively,
Garrett Gibson had six tackles to lead the team while
Aaron Buckley recorded an interception and Quaylon Buckley added a sack.
ETBU's first drive resulted in a three-and-out as they were forced to punt. The Cowboys would respond with a scoring drive of six plays to lead 7-0. ETBU would drive down the field on their second possession of the game to reach the 10-yard line before Baca scampered in to tie the game at seven. HSU drove down to the 28-yard line on their next possession but they were held to a 40-yard field goal to lead 10-7. ETBU's next possession led to a pick-six by HSU, which gave them a 17-7 lead. Following a missed field goal, HSU pick up another touchdown for a 24-7 lead.
As the second quarter started, ETBU was able to prevent a first down with a stop. But HSU's punt put ETBU inside their five-yard line, which they were unable to move from and were forced to punt. HSU would capitalize on good field position and make it 31-7. HSU added another touchdown before the half for a 38-7 lead.
HSU added 21 points in the third quarter before ETBU would put 10 points on the board in the fourth quarter. Baca ran in for his second touchdown of the day and then a
Drew MacKay field would finish out ETBU's scoring.
HAT TRICK FOOTBALL STYLE | AGAIN
For the second time this season, the ETBU defense had a safety record three interceptions in a game as
KJ Kelley pulled off the feat vs. Southwestern.
Grant LaPoint-Teate also had three interceptions vs. McMurry. Kelley was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Week and made the d3football.com "Team of the Week" for his performance.
Kelley's first interception occurred in the second quarter at ETBU's five-yard line as the Pirates looked for the go-ahead touchdown. In the beginning of the 4th quarter, he picked off his second pass as ETBU led, 35-23, at the ETBU 10 returning it 16 yards to stop another SU threat. His final pick came at the 4:37 mark in the 4th quarter at the SU 36-yard line just as SU started a new drive as ETBU was up 42-23. He also broke up a pass as well.
He is the 14
th player at ETBU to earn a spot on the d3football.com "Team of the Week." The last to be named to the team was Xavier Gray in 2017. ETBU six players named in 2015 and one in 2016 along with the offensive line twice in 2014 and 2016.

Senior running back
Jeremiah Robertson needs just 254 yards to break 1,000 rushing yards this year. He has posted five 100-yard rushing games this year against Texas Lutheran (150), Sul Ross State (115), McMurry (129), Howard Payne (169), and Southwestern (104). Against Southwestern, he had all the yards in the first half, too. ETBU's last 1,000 yard rusher came in 2015 from Kendall Roberson with 1,626 yards. There have only been five 1,000 yard rushers in ETBU's history since starting the program back up in 2000.

Justin Ward rushed for 110 yards vs. Southwestern for his second career 100-yard rushing game. His first 100-yard rushing game came last year with 104 yards on 11 carries vs. Howard Payne University. He went for 110 yards on 17 carries with a 42-yard run vs. Southwestern and a touchdown. He has scored a touchdown in two straight games now and has 343 yards rushing on the year.
BACA BREAKS THE RECORD
Senior
Brian Baca broke the ETBU career record for passing touchdowns at 63 against Southwestern University. He found
Jake Smith on a 39-yard pass in the fourth quarter to make it 42-23 to break the record. Baca has tallied 15 passing touchdowns this year and 1,956 yards passing. He surpassed Josh Warbington's record of 62 set from 2013 to 2015. Below is where Baca stands in the rest of career passing categories.

They have had three or more sacks in four games and three interceptions in a game vs. McMurry and Southwestern. The posted five sacks vs. McMurry and four vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Brian Baca. Brian is a four-year player and is from Pittsburg, Texas. He has played in 26 games posting 63 passing touchdowns, 6,825 passing yards, 919 rushing yards, and 14 rushing touchdowns. He is the all-time program leader in passing touchdowns and second in completions, passing attempts, and passing yards. He also has two single game records for passing touchdowns and passing yards in one game against Louisiana College in 2017. He is an All-ASC first-team selection, two-time ASC All-Academic, an ASC sportsmanship award winner, voted onto the CoSIDA Academic All-District team last year, a four-time ASC Offensive Player of the Week, and on the d3football.com Team of the Week once. #7
