@ETBU_Baseball Errors Costly in California

ETBU fell to #20 Chapman, 7-6 (11 inn) , and 5-3.

ORANGE, Calif. – Competing against #20 Chapman University, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team couldn't overcome errors in both games as they dropped the final two games, 7-6 (11 inn.), and 5-3. ETBU is now 3-3 overall.

Game one saw CU win 7-6 in 11 innings as ETBU was led by Casey Combs who went 4-for-6 with two RBI. Zach Gartner (two RBI) and Landen Barns each recorded three hits in the game. Seth Mikeska (two RBI) recorded two hits including a homerun. Blake Corbin received the start for the Tigers going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Taking the loss was Call Florence (2.1 IP).

Despite a strong pitching performance by John Marrs in game two, the Tigers were unable to come from behind to for a win. Marrs (6.0 IP) took the loss for the Tigers as he gave up four runs on four hits while striking out seven. Offensively, ETBU was led by Mikeska as he went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Game 1 – CU 7, ETBU 6 (11 innings)
Two scoreless inning went by before CU would strike first getting one run across in the bottom of the third. The Tigers plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Gartner drove Combs in on a single to left field to get the scoring started. A two-run homerun by Mikeska would give the Tigers a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Chapman went on to put up one run in the bottom of the fifth and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth giving them a 5-3 advantage heading into the seventh.

The Tigers clawed their way back by putting up one run in the seventh on a Gartner double that scored Combs and two runs in the eighth inning. A Combs double that scored Bateman and Singletary gave ETBU a slight 6-5 advantage heading into the ninth. CU would get a run across on a steal of home plate in the bottom of the ninth tying the game at 6-6. CU scored the lone run in the eleventh giving them the 7-6 win.

Game 2 – CU 5, ETBU 3 (9 innings)
Chapman would strike first in the bottom of the third as they got four runs across in the inning. ETBU would get two runs on the board in the fourth as Mikeska scored on a wild pitch and another on a Jake Miller single (one RBI) as he drove in Barns. CU put one run up in the seventh. The Tiger comeback fell short as they were only able to score one run in the eighth on a Mikeska single which scored Combs.

The Tigers will be back in action this Tuesday as they will host Millsaps at 4:00 PM at Woods Field.
