#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Baseball Sweeps McMurry in West Texas

ABILENE, Texas – Using big offensive innings in both games, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team completed a sweep against McMurry University in a non-conference series. ETBU now stands at 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. ETBU won game one, 8-1, and then took game two 8-4.
 
In game one, ETBU would manage to break away from a 2-1 lead to an 8-1 victory in seven innings. Brady Faulkner would lead with three hits while Seth Mikeska, Drew Large, and Casey Combs would each have two RBI on two hits. Blake Corbin started the game with three innings allowing no runs on three hits and two strikeouts. ETBU would use four relievers to close out the game with Alek Arellano getting the win with a strikeout and a walk in his inning.
 
The Tigers completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-4 win in game two. Landen Barns had three hits while Zach Gartner collected two RBI on two hits. Dylan Sumpter also had two hits for the Tigers. Derrick Findley received the win with six innings of one-run, three hit ball.
 
Game 1 – ETBU 8, McM 1 (7 innings)
ETBU would manage one run in the first two innings as a two-out RBI double by Mikeska in the first while a sacrifice fly by Large in the second inning made it 2-0. McM would have the tying runs in scoring position in the bottom of the third inning. But they were unable to capitalize then. However, McM would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single.
 
In the top of the fifth, RBI hits by Gartner (single) and Mikeska (double) extended the margin to 4-1. They would then break the game open in the top of the sixth inning as four runs came across thanks to RBI singles by Large and Combs along with a wild pitch to make it 8-1. ETBU had no problems securing the lead as the bullpen finished the job with two scoreless innings.
 
Game 2 – ETBU 8, McM 4
Back-to-back homers from Sumpter and Combs gave ETBU an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. McM answered with one run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly. ETBU would grab momentum to their side in the top of the fourth inning as Faulkner reached on an error allowing two runs to score while McAdams would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
 
Gartner would then connect in the next inning with a two-run shot as ETBU pushed their lead to 7-1. Both teams would score in the eighth inning as a passed ball allowed ETBU to pick up their eighth run while McM would get one back with an RBI groundout. The War Hawks would score two in the bottom of the ninth inning. But the Tigers managed to get the last three outs for the sweep.
 
ETBU will finish this series at 1:00 PM tomorrow.
