Follow ETBU in Costa Rica
The ETBU Women's Soccer team is participating in the ninth Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME) trip over Spring Break. The group consisting of 25 student-athletes and five coaches and staff are partnering with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and serving in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.
"Our day began at 3:00 AM this morning in the Healthplex parking lot with the weighing of everyone's luggage before loading up the bus to travel to DFW International Airport. After some improvisation due to a gate change and the girls splitting up to get breakfast, everyone made it on to our plane. We taxied on the runway for over an hour before we were able to get a spot in the departure pattern of the planes. The flight itself was fairly uneventful until we were delayed once again on the runway of the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. We were joyfully greeted by Johan, our YWAM contact and the bus driver! After loading up all our luggage and gear we stopped for a quick bite at McDonalds and then were on our way to the YWAM compound in Puerto Viejo. After a four hour drive and a short trek through the Costa Rican jungle in the dark and a little bit of rain, we were greeted with a delicious pasta dinner prepared by Johan's wife to wrap up our day of travel. Everyone is ready for a restful night before beginning our busy and exciting week of serving, soccer, and adventure!
"My favorite moment from today was looking out the windows of the plane and bus and seeing the beautiful scenery of Costa Rica. I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like outside when we wake up in the morning. I'm most excited for working with the kids tomorrow and showing them the love of Jesus through soccer,"
Kristen Schmidt said.
I would have to say that the thing I enjoyed most today was all of the endless laughter that I had with my teammates. Through all of the trials we faced everyone was making the best out of every situation and bonding over all of the bumps in the road we came across. Sitting in the sweltering hot room at night, where we could all be complaining about the situation, all you could hear was the laughter and joking from the girls. I am so excited for the rest of the week,"
