MARSHALL, Texas – Scoreless after four frames, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team put up an offensive barrage in their final four innings on their way to a 9-3 victory over Belhaven University sweeping the entire American Southwest Conference series. ETBU is now 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the ASC. ETBU has now won six straight games and 12 of their last 15.
Casey Combs (two RBI) led the way with three hits while
Zach Gartner had four RBI on two hits including a homer.
Dylan Singletary (two RBI) and
Zachary McAdams (RBI, HR) also finished with two hits.
Adrian Stover would get the win with 8.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out one batter all game long. For the Blazers, Nathan Herron finished with two hits while Nathan Weatherly delivered a pinch-hit three-run homer for three RBI. Justin Milam would pitch 6.1 innings giving up eight runs on nine hits while six Tiger batters struck out.
Both starting pitchers held the opposition scoreless through four innings but the Tigers would break through in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs all with two outs. Singletary would deliver a two-run double to left before scoring on a triple by Combs. Gartner would then extend his hitting streak with a single to short scoring Combs for a 4-0 lead.
In the seventh, the Tigers tacked on four more runs with a pair of homers courtesy of McAdams and Gartner that pushed ETBU's lead to 8-0. Combs would then single in Singletary from the second in the bottom of the eighth inning. Stover would keep the Blazers scoreless through eight innings, in which not a single batter reached second base during that time. BU finally would get two runners on base in the ninth before they got on the board with a home run.
Call Florence would then get the final out for ETBU as the sweep was secured.
ETBU will host Southwestern University next week beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday night.
